It seems I am having the same problems as many others. After warming up, my car will jerk when I am decreasing my speed then at that point it will not shift back up. I have to stop where ever I am and restart it until the next time I slow down. It is a pain in the butt not to mention dangerous, I was on the interstate a few times and hit traffic real quick and it did this I had to pull over on the shoulder and restart just so I didn't get ran over. I have had 4 mechanics look at this and not one of them can figure it out. It is not electrical, it is not the solenoid, it is not the actual transmission, soooooooooo............. what is it? Apparently there needs to be a recall and someone figure it out!!!!!!!

Intrepid SE 2.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 180,000 miles

When the car is warmed up and after I would slow down from about 30+ mph speeds to below that speed my would give a little jerk and get stuck in 1st gear. It would not shift up until I literally shut the car off and turn it back on. Then the symptoms would return if I went to about 30 mph again.

I found a mechanic that said he would check it out for me for free. He checked it out and determined that it was the solenoid pack. I had him replace it worked like a charm! Hope this helps.

I bought my Intrepid in February of 2004 with only 32000 miles on it. I have always taken care to change the oil. After 5 years and numerous payments, I started having trouble with the transmission. It was fine as long as the engine isn't too warm as soon as it heats up and I travel over 60 miles an hour it will not shift down when slowing, I feel a clunk at about 20 miles an hour and have to pull over as it will not shift. I restart the car and it runs fine. Completely frustrating. One mechanic thinks it is the sensors. I think I got TOOK by Dodge!! As I have other complaints that I will add to another section. I think Dodge didn't do right by the consumer, I have spoke with many Intrepid owners and I hear the same story. Now as a single mom out of work I still owe 3000.00 on my car and have to find a way to repair it..if it is even possible

Intrepid SE 2.7L

After my wonderful Nissan Sentra got into an accident (not my fault), I was left with very limited money and no time to buy a car. After a week of research and another week or searching, I found a Dodge Intrepid. I found it at Fullerton Motors (NEVER GO THERE!) in Fullerton, CA. He gave me a good deal (so i thought), I had it checked out by TWO mechanics before I bought it and they said it looked fine, and so i bought it. THAT NIGHT, i tried turning the wheel too hard while in reverse, and it died...I should have known then, but I brought it back, the guy fixed it (free) and sent me on my way...Next day...same thing. But I was just told not to turn the wheel so hard - ok fine...Now 6 weeks later...CHECK ENGINE light goes on after I get the car up over 60mph. It was the transmission. I had the codes reset, and it went off...but 5 days later when I got it back up over 60 mph again - it came back on! Had to get towed home - and it was the transmission again. Mechanic says it COULD be the Solenoid Pack or Valve Body but either way it's going to cost over 700 to fix it - and that's if it's JUST the Solenoid. So, I dont have that kinda money right now...so it's sitting in my garage unable to drive over 30 mph - it's basically stuck in 2nd gear. And thats it...so i will NEVER EVER buy American EVER again. Not only that, but in the last week, I had 2 mechanics and a tow truck driver tell me that the Dodge is the NUMBER 1 car they tow and work on because of engine/tranny troubles!! F*ck you Dodge and Chrysler!!

I was driving my intrepid when i noticed out of the blue it got stuck in 1st gear...wouldnt shift or anything..i turned it and once i started it again it was fine. the next day it was worse...checked online and also had someone look at it (no lights came on as a warning) and take it for a ride, still wouldnt shift....found online that it could be the sensors...had someone change the filter and the problem was still there so now i am saving up for the sensors..this really sux ...especially being a single mom and this being the one and only car i have...

Intrepid

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

The check engine light came on and the next thing I knew I couldn't get car to shift. There is no way that a four year old car with only 50k miles on it should have this problem and cost the money it does to repair.

I owned a Pontiac with over 100k miles and 13 years old and never had this problem. I will never buy another Dodge vehicle.

It took me 3 different repair shops and finally the dealer had to fix this problem. The cost was about $1,800 - what a rip off and countless hrs. in the repair shop. Will never buy another dodge again.
